That’s my kin you’re talkin’ about!
I have been told, that many people around these parts are kin to Jesse James. In Kansas, you don't learn about Jesse James. I remember writing a paper in high school about him. He's a big deal around here. Well, I was quite delighted, when I learned from a member of the May family, that the May's are KIN to Jesse James. It was just meant to be, moving back to Missouri. So, when we saw this sign outside of the jail, we were quite proud. He's our kin and all.

My favorite thing
On our last day of vacation, we always reflect, and discuss what our favorite thing about vacation was. Usually our drive home takes 15 hours, this time, just an hour. We still had our discussion.
I'll have to ask the boys again, what their favorites were. I know the Roman exhibits at the art museum was mentioned. The time Willie something stole a base, and earned us a free slushie was mentioned. Jared loved seeing Truman's hat, still hanging on the hook where he put it in his house. Me, I loved Truman's house.
My mom use to take me on home tours. It was a combination of that feeling... stepping into a whole new world, along with the coziness of the kitchen, which looks as it did in 1982, a lot like my grandparents' kitchen feels to me, in all of my childhood memories. The stories that were told, the things we saw, along with that cozy feeling, made Truman's house my favorite.
Jared's Uncle Ken told us about when he was in Jr. High in Independence, and Truman would go for his daily walks, and everyone would lean out the window and wave. That story added to the experience.. picturing how down to earth Truman must of been, so accessible to the citizens of Independence. Just one of their own, that happened to be president for awhile.
And.. of course, we saw the school. An important photo op. Family history right there.

Mini
Last weekend, we took our trip to KC, and it was dubbed a "mini vacation". The boys insisted, since it was a mini vacation, we needed to play mini-golf. A mini theme. The boys love mini golf. I love complaining about Manhattan's version of mini-golf. The course, I felt was a cross between Manhattan, and my beloved course at St. Joe. Not too bad. The kids enjoyed it.

Take me out to the ball game
We took the boys to a Royals game, which proved to be a fun time. The Royals were ahead for most of the game, yet lost it in the 11th inning. However, we still won, the May family that is, because we got a free slushie the next day from sonic, since some guy stole a base. The frugal family that we are, we were pretty excited when that guy stole the base, because we knew about the slushie deal. We were cheering loud before the jumbotran even announced the slushie. It's hard to beat a free slusie.

Happy Birthday to my daddy!

It's quite hard to get a photo of my dad. I had to borrow this one, because they're a bit rare. Anyway. Happy Birthday to my daddy.

Did us good
We've gotten into a routine. A routine of school, homework, bedtime. Not that it's a bad routine, but, we were a bit tired, all the time. Maybe not the kids, maybe just the adults. Getting away did wonderful things for us. Reminded us why we were working, reminded us to enjoy the family. And, it was fun. A bit tiring, as we didn't do our pre-vacation exercises, but fun indeed. It's good to break up the monotony.

Kansas City here we come
We're taking a brief mini vacation in Kansas City this weekend. We've done the Nelson Atkin's Art Museum and a Royals game so far. The kids and Jared swam in the hotel pool, and I enjoyed the wireless internet. Tomorrow is the Truman stuff in Independence along with some mini golf at a minimum. It's be nice so far. Very vacation-y. Good for all of us. Photos of day one are here... more will come, when I get more internet access.

Routine
We're falling into a nice routine. Work is wearing me out less, Jared comes home happier, and the kids are enjoying school. After dinner we wind down with some croquet.

Delightful
The weather lately has just been marvelous! The boys would still rather stay inside and play with legos and video games, but I feel no guilt at all, kicking them outside, and telling them to run around.
The boys start karate tonight, if all goes as planned. It is the same program they've done for the past 7 years, so that is nice. Different location and instructor, of course, but still quite familiar.
