Where did the time go?
I have blog posts in mind. Ones that just don't seem to getting written. I had a great brainstorm about Wa the Na. I even have a photo to go with that one, but it's on a cd somewhere, and my cd drive is busted.
I had a post planned about fantasy football drafts. Which, for some odd reason, the males in the household seem to really enjoy. But, I never got around to taking that photo. It would of been cute. Five laptops, snacks, and happy boys. Oh well.
I could write about how wonderful it was to get together with friends this past weekend. One of them even brought me rice krispy treats. That is surely blog worthy. But, that's about all there is to say about that.
I could tell you about my new bank's ATM machine, which was so freakin' cool, it deserves photos to go with a post. Really, I deposited a check, and it knew how much it was for, and showed me a scan of the check in SECONDS. I even got a receipt with a photo of the check on it. Wow!
The fact is, even though I have the same job I had in Riley, for some reason, I feel like I have no time anymore. I'm not sure why that is. I come home, and feel my day is pretty much done. I haven't been taking photos lately, I spend hardly any time on the computer, I'm behind in filling out all of the billions of papers the kids bring home from school. I need to find that balance. It's there. I just need to find it.

Dinner
Earlier this week, I was going out to the shed to let the dogs out, and feed all of the pets, when I saw this guy walking across the yard. I explained to the dogs, they had to hurry up and eat, so I could go get a camera. The turtle was slow, I had plenty of time.
He stopped walking, as I approached him, allowing me to take several photos. So, for Jared, here's the snapping turtle that you need to catch.

Settling into place
Things are moving in the right direction. I got the job I wanted, exactly, which wasn't available until the day I interviewed. (I started the next day). Jared has a good teaching job, although, it's not perfect... it will work for now. Our house is back on the market. I'm working hard on getting us into our own house, and have a couple good leads. The kids are enjoying school.
Things are feeling good.

Relaxing
I enjoyed my summer a lot. Beyond the stress of moving, selling houses, no house to move into, and job hunting... I was staying in the country. The evenings were cool, the mornings were cool, it was peaceful, and very relaxing.
Now, as I go to let the dogs out in the morning, before heading to work, I can't help but think, it will be nice, when I'm retired, and I just get to do this all day. Perhaps I'm a bit young to be looking forward to retirement.

The rain
Last week we had a couple days straight of rain. We glanced out the back door, and to our surprise, we could see the creek. After the rain slowed down, the boys and I ventured down to see the creek. It was mighty mighty high.

Math
This boy loves math. He loves math, like most kids love recess. Need more proof?
Here he is around the second day of summer vacation. Fractions.
Here he is, with his dad. Studying College Algebra, which apparently is funny.
Anyway, on the first day of school, when his Grandpa wolk him up, he JUMPED out of bed, beyond excited. This is the boy, that last year, would get out of bed five minutes before we had to leave. He often ate his breakfast on the go. Not this year, this year, he's very very happy to go to school. Why? Math. He gets an individualized math program. He giggles and smiles when you mention it. I hope he never loses this love of school he currently has. Something is being done right.

First day of school…. two days later
The first day of school came and went. I sent off a Seventh Grader:
A fifth grader:
And a Third Grader:
I offered to take them, but they insisted on riding the bus. I didn't take photos of that, I didn't want them to be the new kids, with the crazy mom. They all had a wonderful day, made lots of friends, and even LIKED the bus ride.

Pets
The pets are adjusting well to country life. Dangy, who we thought would beg to come inside every time we opened the door, has taken to it the best. She has become best friends with Blue (my parents' dog) and hangs out in the garage with him. She barks at cars as they drive up, wagging her tail the entire time, just having a ball. She does not enjoy sleeping in the shed during thunderstorms, and has already torn up her kennel once, but other than that, she's making a very smooth transition.
Periwinkle ran off, after we had been here for 2 weeks. Blue does not like cats. Day one, Periwinkle explored the garage, and Blue chased her straight up a tree. After that, she stayed away from the garage, but was nice and calm as she ever is. Then, she ran off. I assured the boys, she probably just found a home that feeds her more. Well, two weeks later, she came back. Skinny. Hungry. She ate two cans of cat food, when she normally just eats one. She hasn't left since. She's discovered how comfortable Pete's combine is, and is quite content.
Ladybug is still hyper as ever. She tries to start fights with the dogs, trys to herd the people. She runs into the neighbors' yard. She loves the pond and the creek. She runs fast fast fast when she gets out of her kennel in the morning. I give her a nice running session every night as well, to try to wear her out a bit. Someday, maybe she'll calm down. Maybe. Or she may always be this energetic.

Why we’re here
One of the most important reasons that we decided to relocate is friends and family. While we're leaving an important part of the family back in Kansas (but they're coming here soon...), much of our family is here, along with good friends. I am not the most socially outgoing person in the world, but I'm trying very hard to arrange gatherings with the family and friends.
So, yesterday, we met up with Jamie's family in Liberty for lunch. It was nice. No pressure to fill in what we've been up to, no pressure to make sure the memories will last for another 6 months, for another gathering... just a nice relaxing lunch, with six crazy kids. We'll definately do it again soon, and often.

Kansas City
I've been slacking. Slacking on blog posts, slacking on photos of the boys. I can't put a photo into posts with dial up. Too many additional clicks.
Anyway, yesterday we went to Kansas City. We did the touristy thing. We saw Jared's school. We put plants in his classroom, and made sure his smart board worked ok. We drove around the neighborhood there, we drove through the 18th and vine district, and then we went to Crown Center. I had previous explained to Jared, that I thought Crown Center would be a fun activity for us, that my parents NEVER took me there when I was a kid. He then asked me, as we're driving, how to get there, and if I knew what it looked like. NOPE. I only went there a couple times.. but LOVED it!
He did find it, without any problems. We took the kids to Kalidescope, took them to Fritz's Railroad Cafe, walked to the Union, watched some model trains, bought some chocolate from the Chocolate Factory, and went on a tour of a lego exibit. It was just like a mini-vacation, except then, we got to drive HOME. Wow.
Jared picked up some brochures, so we now have a list of more fun, touristy things to do in Kansas City, when we have some spare time.
