Happy May Day!

family photo

Happy May Day, from the May Family! Ok, I didn't actually ok that greeting from anyone else, I spoke on their behalf. I'm sure they do wish you a happy May Day. The boys are taking in treats to celebrate "Jonas May Day", "Alex May Day" and "Caleb May Day". It's quite the fun holiday around here.

*Side note* This photo was taken at one of my all time favorite places, Bryce Canyon National Park. If you are ever in the area. Go. If you are ever within a day or two, go. I love it there.

Worn Out

the laundry room

I took the day off of work today, because most of the kids I work with went on a field trip, and I was not needed for that. However, it was not a relaxing day off.

I decided to work on the laundry room. I painted it a light color. It was wood panels before. It has really brightened up the room, and made it look so much cleaner. I got some Green Works, which smells AMAZING, and scrubbed the washer and dryer like they've never been scrubbed before. I used a concrete cleaner and scrubbed the floors. It was still not dry from that, when this photo was taken. The house is being shown tomorrow, so I'll have to wait until after that, to seal the concrete.

It took longer than I expected. There is a lot of exposed pipes that I had to work around. The water heater was hard to paint around. Those little crevasses in the wood paneling were very time consuming. But, it is done. Much better.

In a different area, our lawn mower broke. The lawn is getting tall. So, tonight, I used the weedeater and "mowed" the front yard. Now it won't look so bad tomorrow, when the house is shown. My wonderful dad is bringing me a "new" mower tomorrow.

So, I'm exhausted. I'm going to need to get up early, and finish getting the house in order. I didn't clean up today, since I stayed home, so I have two days worth of mess in my house, plus I my dining room has the stuff that belongs in the laundry room. We'll get there though.

Time to go back

each of us in a different state

Did you hear? The four corners monument is not in the correct spot. Looks like we'll have to swing back by, and find the RIGHT spot. Jared really enjoyed going way out of the way to get here, so I'm sure he won't mind.

Carded

Boys 2002

I've been a bit under the weather. It really came at an inconvenient time, because this is the city wide clean up week, and I've been hauling sticks for two weeks now.. so they will kindly haul them away. I have just a couple days left to get them out there, but I've been working at half speed.

Anyway, I ran out of benedryl, and went to walmart tonight to get some. The cash register beeped, and I wondered why, I looked up, and saw the read out "Is the customer over 18?" I glanced at the cashier, he paused and asked "Do you have your driver's license?" Yep. It's good to look young.

So, I'm taking the night off of stick hauling. I think I have two more nights after tonight, I should be able to get them all moved.

Then, I'm sure someone will want to buy the house.

Open House

eggs

We're having an open house today. I had big plans to really work on a lot of the outdoors stuff, stick movin', shed cleanin', ect. But, I came down with a cold. So, I will work on having the inside of the house nice and clean, like I always do, but not much more.

I'm hopeful that I will have the energy to finish stick hauling after the open house. The city wide cleanup is this week, and I need all of my sticks moved from one corner of the yard, to the opposite corner of the yard, so they will take them away.

Hopefully someone will walk through our house, and totally fall in love with it. That's the goal. I bought flowers for our table, and I'm in the process of baking cookies. Oh how homey this house is.

The Blankie

reading

Jonas' blankie is bigger than either of the other kids' blankies by the age of seven. Caleb's blankie was a gift from Mary and Jeremiah. We were told that they poked holes in all of the packages just to find the perfect blanket. That was the first day I met Mary. Ahh, memories. It lasted until Caleb was around 2. Then, it started falling apart. Scraps of it remained for several years after that. For the sake of not embarrassing my son, I will not state how long. The last I saw it, it was about 2 inches by 6 inches. A ribbon, was all that was left. Then, that disappeared as well.

Alex's blankie was a gift from my aunt and uncle, Jim and Charlotte. It was a knit type blanket, breathable, soft. It too, only made it to about the age of two, when it just fell into thousands of strings. Alex has a very similar blanket on his bed now. Same type of material. It's his favorite blanket, that must cover him first, when he sleeps.

Jared picked out Jonas' blankie. Jonas was already born, if I recall correctly. I remember going through the isles of K-Mart, and Jared declared that THIS was the perfect blankie for Jonas. The edges are a bit torn up, and there's a hole in the middle. But, all and all, it's held up quite well.

Today he's home sick. He wolk up with an earache. I think stuff just drained wrong, while he was sleeping. Alex is also home sick. Looks, acts very droopy. Not the perky goofy Alex we're use to. So, since Alex stayed home, I offered the same to Jonas, so that he could get a day of rest. Perhaps prevent this from going further. On sick days, you get a blankie in the living room. No other day, is it allowed to leave the bedroom. So, he's spent the day, watching game shows on tv, a bit of PBS Kids.. (I told the kids, they should be able to handle preschool reading now), and reading the third Harry Potter book. The sight of my little boy with his blankie, reading that thick book, is amusing to me.

I asked him, how long he would keep the blankie. He told me forever. I asked.. if he would sleep with it, when he was married. He said yes, but his wife might think it's weird, when he brings his blankie to his wedding. Indeed.

Happy Easter!

waiting to hunt

We had our traditional scavenger hunt. A note was left on the table, to wait for parents, and play some free video games while we slept in a bit.

start the hunt

Once we were up, and ready.. they ripped open their envelopes. They each had to follow nine clues. Some of them were tricky, and Dad had to help out a bit.

help with the clue

But at the end, it was all good. The kids each got a coupon book, filled with nine coupons. I sense a theme. Alex redeemed one of his immediately. Ice Cream Sundae.

redeemed an easter coupon

We'll dye eggs later, after the kids finish their two hour video game with Jared. I've been working on a big Easter dinner. Fun family times.

Happy Easter, everyone!

Another showing

photographing animals

We were given a thirty minute notice today, that the house was to be shown. So, we cleaned rapid fast, and scooted on out of the house. We decided a day at the zoo would be enjoyable. I was thinking we would have the place pretty much to ourselves, like usual. However, they were having an extravaganza at the zoo. Crowds. Lots of crowds. We had to park in a field.

After I wrapped my head around the fact that there was a crowd, and I would have to get in more of a "people mood" than I mentally prepared myself for, it was a lovely time. Jonas and I had to leave early, so I could rush him over to a birthday party. I then headed back, to join the rest of the family.

Perhaps we'll hear from the realtor soon.. with the great news, that our house has been sold. Perhaps.

Music

music

Alex got a new mp3 player for his birthday. More space. Menu button that works. Good times. He gave Jonas his old one. He warned him, the menu doesn't work, but Jonas was still thrilled. His old one wasn't working. So this worked out great for everyone.

I've been trying to learn Missouri Waltz for my newest mandolin piece. I've also been working on new strumming techniques, because I think my right hand is lacking in skill. I also found the sheet music for minor swing. That will be a crowd pleaser, after I'm brave and learn it. I also had the brilliant idea of learning Pachelbel's Canon, and we could all play it together, all being the lead. So I need to find my old music for that. I need to increase my play list though. Most of the family has heard all of my tunes.

Awhile back, my grandpa gave my brother a box of tapes, of his band playing songs back in the eighties (Grandpa's band). Kevin recorded them onto CD's, and I'm now working on putting them on my ipod. I listened to one last night. Out of 30 minutes, there were three songs played and about 20 minutes of story telling. It brought back fond memories.

Wanted: My Balloon

This Wednesday was para appreciation day. It did not fail to amuse any of the paras, that this was on April Fool's Day. The teachers and principal treated us to a one hour lunch at the local pizza place. Very nice of them. Then, today, at the Friday morning assembly we were told to attend, and we were each given a balloon with a sonic gift card attached to it. My balloon said "You Rock." Indeed I do.

The balloon made it to the minivan great. I stopped to get the mail, opened the door, and the balloon wooshed right out, and blew away. I chased it for a long ways, but never caught it. My balloon and gift card are gone.

Here is how I felt.

sad

I know I still rock though.
