the noise

don't hit your brother.

Today was Jonas' field trip. We went to Abilene, which was very nice. I work with kindergarteners, so I got to go as well. The student I work with was sick today, unfortunately, but, I still got to go. I shouldn't be as tired as I am, since I was only a support staff.. but, alas, I'm exhausted.

Currently, Alex is practicing the recorder, his homework. Caleb's homework... practicing the trumpet. Two different songs. Both in the living room. Loud.

The weekend…

croquet

We had a very nice visit with the builder. We are people that research, and make ourselves knowledgeable about things before talking to people. So, we had looked through this companies plans extensively, and knew *exactly* which plan we wanted. (with a backup plan). So, when he started flipping through the book, Jared and I both were thinking.. don't waste your time showing us another plan.. but, sure enough, we like the new plan BETTER! So, it was a good visit. We got some details we needed, he will call us with more information, and we're just on the right track now.

We took a nice long walk from my parents' house, to where our house will be. It brought back fond memories. Spots that I always enjoyed, peaceful pieces of land. Jared almost stepped on a snake. That was exciting. The kids played some croquet, and got beaten by their grandma, again. She's quite good at croquet, who knows when the Queen of England will stop by and want to play a game.

It was an enjoyable weekend. Only 20 days left of school.

Summer plans

summer plans
*dates blurred out

I'm still working on journals and activity books for the boys. They requested an itinerary be put in the front of the activity book, so they would know how far it was to their next location. Excellent idea boys! Well, much to my surprise, when I was looking up how far it was to each location... it is very manageable! Typically we have 13 hour drives, and get home from our trips at around 3 am. Although, we may still get home around 3am, if we visit too long in Colorado with Nathan.

On a very related note, I ordered a binding machine online last night. I decided if I am already paying to have six books bound, that it might be a wise investment to just get the machine for myself. I do this for the kids most summers. It sometimes varies, as to how it presented (because I don't always want to pay for the binding). I'm very excited, and can't wait for it to arrive. I'm sure pictures will be posted.

This and that

pokemon, by cheryl
*photo by Cheryl, stolen, without permission. :)

Well, a bit of this and that, no solid topic.

The above photo... Gary got Pokemon. The kids already knew how cool he was, but his coolness factor just went up drastically. Jonas told me today, that he wants to live with Grandma and Granddad, because Granddad gets unlimited video games. They talked about nothing but Pokemon last night during our visit with their grandparents.

I spent most of my day working in the yard. I bought eight bags of mulch, spread out two weeks worth of newspapers, and pulled one summers worth of weeds. I have about half of the flowerbed done. But, while I was working, Jared and I discussed how wonderful it will be when we move. It will be so quiet and peaceful. It will be wonderful to have the family close by (although, there will be a small delay before we have ALL the family).. We are just very anxious to move. We will be talking to the builder on Saturday.

No school tomorrow. The kids think they're going to play video games all day. I think we're going to work in the yard some more. We'll see who's right.

And for your enjoyment, here is Alex singing the Captain Underpants song. My mom got him a cd filled with *lovely* songs, just like this one.

the watch

Image003

Jonas' watch we found while spring cleaning was accidentally given a bath today. He's in tears. He tells me "That was my only source of time!" He only took it off for baths, refusing to take it off for anything else. Well, today, he forgot to take it off for his bath. I assured him, I could get him another one tomorrow, because he's taken good care of this one, and it was an accident. He's told me, that he can't make it that long. That he NEEDS to know what time it is.

Politics over dinner

fan kata 1

Caleb has been interested in politics for a long time, and with the upcoming presidential election, he's talking up a storm about his opinions. Last night, Alex asked, what's the differences between democrats and republicans, we turned the table over to Caleb. He explained to Alex, that republicans tax people less and provide fewer services for people, while democrats tax people more (he then explained.. this means take more of your money) and provide more services for people. Alex thought for awhile, and announced, he was a democrat. Jonas decided he was a republican, because he doesn't want anyone taking his money.

Today, Caleb came home, and started to tell us various teachers political affiliation. I asked him what his main teacher's was, and he told me, she wouldn't tell him. He discussed what he knew of his grandparents' positions, and stated who he wants to win this election. When asked why... "because that is who Dad wants to win."

Blog post, revisited

2 2 2

While searching for an easy way to move blog posts from yahoo 360 to wordpress, I found a mention of the fact that Yahoo 360 is planning on closing down. I've had this blog for over a year, and still haven't gotten all of my old posts moved over here. It's a long process, saving photo to computer, uploading to flickr, copying and pasting the entry, changing the date on the entry, and then moving the photo over. Comments are all lost. But, at least the posts are saved. So, it's slow.

I thought I would revisit this post, made on November 20, 2006. Originally at Yahoo 360, now, over here, on this website.

We were at Grandma and Granddad’s house this weekend, where Jonas was drawing pictures. He looked up at his grandma, and asked “Grandma, I know a ruler is for measuring, but what I don’t know, is why you need to measure things.” She then explained that when you are drawing photos, a ruler helps keep your drawings “equivalent” to the real item you are drawing, and that it also aids in creating a drawing that is “proportionate” to itself. She did go on, to explain, that if you were drawing a house, and had a window that was four feet wide, that you can draw it four inches in the drawing. Caleb looked up at her, and told her.. “Grandma, I don’t think he understands the correlation between those two things.” She was shocked at his vocabulary. I mentioned, that I thought the vocabulary could probably be credited to a Grandma that uses words like “equivalent” and “proportionate” when explaining things to a five year old.

School pictures

Jonas in Kindergarten
Caleb in Fifth
Alex in Third

I forgot all about school picture day. I was suppose to be at work 15 minutes early for the staff photo. oops. Then, of course, I should of perhaps insisted my children combed their hair a bit better that morning. oops. I might of swayed them towards wearing their favorite shirts, rather than their cleanest shirts. But, the nice thing is, thanks to their Grandma Cheryl, they have plenty of k-state shirts, and just all happened to be wearing one. So, it's a theme!

Caleb never ever smiles for the spring picture. He didn't in Kindergarten, and hasn't sense. If you can't make him laugh, he's not going to fake a smile for him.

I even bought these pictures, not just scan them in. I'm really growing as a person!

The power of google

Found my boy on google

I am making journals for the kids, for when we're on vacation. I was trying to find an image to go with Channel Island National Parks and the Junior Ranger program. So, off to google I went, of course. When, upon second glance.. there was Jonas! The first two pictures in the second row are my photos! I just love google.

Soda withdrawl

nintendo ds

The soda machine at work has been out of Diet Coke for about a week. So, I've been drinking Coke Zero. Not quite as good, but fairly close. Today, out of Coke Zero. It was a rough day.
