Eyes

deep concentration

While shopping for halloween fabric yesterday, a lady at the fabric store told the boys that they had the most beautiful eyes, where did they get them?

Caleb quickly responded, that he got his eyes from his dad. Alex got all shy, and didn't answer, Jonas paused for a very long time and told her "I was just born with them!".

Halloween

Super Jonas

Christmas stuff is already at Walmart. That means it's time to start working on Halloween costumes. I had the kids pinpoint what they wanted to be today, so I could order my patterns. I should of done this a month ago, I don't think I'll have much time to work on them, but one year, I made three costumes, within a 2 week period, without a sewing machine, so I'm sure I can do it.

Jonas is going to be Luigi. Alex wants to be a clown, and Caleb is going to be a musketeer. I've put in my pattern requests. There is no pattern for Jonas', so I will start on his. I am spending my day searching for the perfect hat pattern for Luigi.

Homecoming

adoption*

One of the benefits of working at the school, is I was informed of the homecoming parade this year. Last year, Jonas and I heard the pep rally, and went over to it, but missed most of it.

I have very fond memories of homecoming at Lathrop. I remember looking forward to it every year, and by the time you got to high school, it was even more fun, because the cheerleaders faced you. I remember the spirit stick, dressing up differently daily, and shouting the graduation year. Nothing but fun times. I remember lining up downtown to watch the parades, and just how much fun it was.

So, I was looking forward to experiencing it here, small town america, just like Lathrop.

The parade consisted of.. ONE police car, a SMALL marching band, and FOUR floats. That's IT!

I didn't get to see the pep rally, due to work related insidents, but I could hear it. No shouting the graduation years! It didn't seem to have nearly the energy Lathrop had.

Now, I'm questioning my memory. How big was Lathrop's parades? Did it just seem bigger, because I was smaller? Maybe their parades were just as lame, perhaps my boys will have fond memories of Riley's parade.

*picture has nothing to do with the topic, it is from last night, the adopting of the new webkinz.

The big oh-six

going for a drive

My baby boy is 6. What a wonderful part of the family he is. Six years ago, when we were expecting him, we knew he would be the last baby to enter our family. We had failed to name a child after the May side of the family, up to that point, and we heard about it. So, our last baby was going to cover all bases. We planned on naming him Grafton Dale from the begining. This name covers both sides of the family. Then the sonogram came, and they were able to tell us he was a boy. (whoo hoo). Jonas was the first baby that let us know at that point in the pregancy. What a good kid. Well, we decided that having the first name Grafton, in this day and age... might be a little more unusual than we were going for. So, we consulted the baby name books, and decided to add another name. That his how he got the name Jonas Grafton Dale. Last kid, lots of names. Named after many many many people. I was told, that my grandfather (the original Grafton) was speechless when told of Jonas' name. I have never seen him speechless.

Happy Birthday, Jonas!

An army of monsters

army of monstersLittle Monster

Three and half hours, from start to finish. I sat down for a grand total of 2 minutes, when Alex and Jonas arrived home from school. Exhausted. Me sitting here, shouting "get out of the kitchen!". Nothing but happy memories for these kids.

(Jonas did give his seal of approval.)

Double Header

game's over

We attending another set of soccer games tonight. I watched Caleb this time, Jared watched Alex. I just bought a new jacket for myself today, because I was very cold at recess today, and my old jacket smells like a smokey diner for some reason. I didn't bother to take the new jacket with me though, so I was quite chilly.

Both boys had fun, which is the important part to me. They also both won, which is the important part to them.

Next games: Sunday 3pm and 4pm. At least I'll get to watch both of them that day.

Worth a shot

Don't try this at home

It doesn't work quite as well on curly headed boys as it does on dogs.

Birthday Monsters

the spectators

There are several birthday's this week in Jonas' classroom, two happen to be on Friday (he's one of them). So, I'm taking in snacks on Thursday. He's requested monster cupcakes. I'll have to post a photo tomorrow, after I make them. I'm going to be using kissables for the eyeballs. I bought the bag last weekend, and half of them are gone already, I better hurry up and make the cupcakes, before I eat all of the eyeballs.

Caleb helped me birthday shop for Jonas this past weekend. We had to visit three different stores, before we finally found the perfect gift. Jonas stated months ago, all he wants are more webkinz. Our goal was two new webkinz, but as we were leaving the store, we found the very *rare* black cat, which will only be made through October, and then never again. He should be a happy boy. Caleb came away from the shopping experience very jealous, but even through his jealousy, he agreed, Jonas will really enjoy his gifts.

Now, onto the birthday monsters, before I eat all of the ingredients.

Cordinating sporting events

ready to steal the ball

Fall sports are upon us. All three boys are in karate, at least that is on the same night, one trip into town. Alex and Caleb are both in soccer. We lucked out this year, and their practices are on the same night of the week, so, I just have to drop off Caleb, watch his practice for a half hour, drive a few blocks, drop off Alex, come back, pick up Caleb, then go watch the last half hour of Alex's practice. But, only one trip into Manhattan!

Today we had two games. Both at 2pm. Jared cheered on Caleb, while Jonas and I cheered on Alex. I have no idea when the next game is. I'm just not that organized. I have it on the refrigerator. I have to check it nightly, to make sure there's not a game the next day. I know I am in charge of snacks next Sunday for Alex. That's something.
