Random subjects

We made trail mix today. The kids created their own mixtures, named it, made it, bagged it up. We now have "trail -o- matic", "wallaboluka -o- junior", and "casino kid", just to name a few. For the most part, they're pretty much the same.

Only one day of swimming left for the May boys. Jonas gets new teacher after new teacher.. the newest one isn't encouraging him to stick his head under water. He's fine with bubble blowing, floating, while someone is holding him, ect... he needs to be encouraged to go under water though. All three kids just love the pool, we'll have to make more of an effort to go more often.

There were three wasps in our house today. I was brave, and grabbed one with a shirt, and released it outside. About two minutes later, another wasp was spotted... this one had a lot more energy, and the shirt method only upset him. So, I trapped him in a tupperware dish, and threw it outside, which caused Caleb to laugh uncontrollably. Minutes later, a third wasp was seen. I had to go outside and fetch my tupperware container. It was the most active of all of the wasps. But, again, he was caught, and tossed into the yard. I found my wasp killing spray, and will go around and spray the nests tonight. (There are two right outside of our front door I never noticed before.) Seems weird, that I caught and released three, just to go kill them outside.

Sorry no photos were posted of my adorable babyhood on the previous post. I guess I am just *too* busy. Or, lazy.

A visit to the vet

We had to take Ladybug to the vet, to get her caught up on her vacinations, so she can go stay at a pet resort, while we're on vacation.

It was so freakin' boring. We go to K-State, which takes twice as long as a typical vet. First the student vet checks out your pet, then the real vet takes a look. Then, the student vet gives you discharge instructions, then the real vet gives the same discharge instructions. We were there for 1 1/2 hours. But, Ladybug is set.

While she was off getting her shots (they took her away for this), we entertained ourself with a camera.

Swimming lessons

Our mornings are filled with swimming lessons. First thing every morning, I hear "Is it time for swimming yet?" Even though I told them what time we leave, that question continues until swimming time.

Jonas is a very timid swimmer. I remember Caleb was the same way, at that age. Jonas is finally comfortable enough to get his entire head wet, at the begining of the lesson, and he'll even go off the slide at this point.

Alex has been comfortable in water forever. I look out at his swimming class, and he is just floating on his back, while everyone else is learning something. They learned how to dive today, and he just loves it.

Caleb has totally gotten over his issues with swimming, and also just loves it. I was telling him, that when he first started lessons, when he was four, he refused to get his face wet. We had a wonderful teacher, that worked with him, and had great patience, and she convinced him to do it. We signed him up for more lessons with her, that summer. The next summer, he moved up to the big pool, and had to do bobs. Up and down, in the water, 10 times. He hated it, and complained daily, about how dumb it was. That was the last year we did lessons in Manhattan.

Riley lessons are perfect for him. Taught by high school kids that goof around. He laughs and laughs, yet learns all sorts of things.

Wish me good luck!!

I have a job interview!

*deep breath*

It is for the library aide position. Surely I'm the most educated person applying for this position. Does that not count for something? The last time I had an interview was about 4 years ago. I didn't get that job.

My dad taught me well.

Every friday, as a kid, we went to the bank, to my violin lessons, and then out to eat at Ponderosa.

At the bank, my dad would get his money, pull forward a bit, and count it.* I never saw any other cars doing this, but he did. Every Friday. I imagine he still does.

So, that's what I do. Not the Friday thing, although Ponderosa sounds good, I get my money, pull forward, and count my money. I've been doing this since I moved out. Today, for the first time ever, I was short $100. It's a good thing I paid attention to my dad.

*He also gave me a dum dum (sucker) and said "Here's a dum dum for my dumb dumb." I do that for my kids too. They giggle.

Soccer Season

Soccer started!

Jonas asked me first thing, yesterday morning... "Is it time for me to go to soccer?!?"

Soccer started at 7pm. He took it ok. I told him after dinner, and that was enough for him. He announced afterwards, that he had a blast, and wants to go back.

Celebrity in our midst

Today I cooked for Ron Prince at work. It was rather busy, so I don't know what he had. I asked a waitress, and she agreed to walk by, and see.. but I never heard back what it was. I'm sure whatever it was, it was the best food he's ever had in his *entire* life. When I'm cooking, I turn the place into a five star greasy diner.

The summer do.

Caleb got his summer haircut yesterday. Kevin and Kristy are heros for giving us some trimmers, it made it so easy! I noticed a couple spots I missed.. and they've been fixed since this photo.

fresh haircut

We found a trail called Cedar Ridge, a .61 mile trail which was suppose to be ADA accessable. I would hate to be in a wheelchair on that trail. But, it was a nice trail with bridges and nice bridges. We had to take a VERY curvy road to get there, that made me feel carsick. So, we might not do that trail very much.

Tonight we're hitting one portion of the linear trail that goes around Manhattan. I found a loop that is 1.7 miles. Our goal is 5 miles, without getting tired.

Vacation preparation

I'd rather you didn't take my picture

Yesterday we made water bottle holders. If you plan on doing this, get a big o-ring. It was a *pain* to get the o-rings over the necks of the water bottles. We had a picnic dinner, and then walked on a one mile trail at the lake. The water bottle holders worked wonderfully. Jonas asked to be carried about 3/4 of the way through the trail.. I told him no.. he walked the rest of the way, and as soon as we hit the end of the trail, and he spotted the playground.. he was suddenly full of energy, and ran full sprint towards the pretty purple slides.

We also stopped at the tubes, on the way home. Fun, splashing water, rushing out of the lake, into the Blue River.

The tubes

Tonight we're hitting another trail. Another picnic dinner. Jared got his new boots, it's all very exciting.

**totally unrelated... I just got a call that was a pre-interview for one of the jobs I applied for. The one I want the most. (although, I would be happy with either).. this is the one that would pay the most.. more McDonald's. I am VERY excited about that. I hope I did ok.. quick, confident answers. They said they would call back for an interview next week. Now, I just need to find a babysitter, for an unknown date and time.
