The kids finished swimming lessons today. Jonas and I managed to watch the last fifteen minutes of them jumping off of the diving board. They started swimming with being comfortable in the water, but without the knowledge of how to get anywhere (except by floating on their back, to where ever the current took them). Now, they can jump into very deep water, tread, swim to where they want to get. Stop and take some breaths if needed. They did great. They passed on to the next level.
We finished up two projects.
This one is the tie died mickey shirt. Alex's shirt shows it very nicely, that we died mickey's head right into the tie died pattern. Caleb wadded up his shirt for this photo, but it really does the best job, out of all of the photos I took.
Here are our mickey swirly shirts. They were made by making a flour and water paste, squirting it on the shirt, baking them in the sun, then dying them. You're suppose to use a fabric spray to do this, rather than the typical tie dye.
So, those are our last two shirts, disney themed, ready to go. Jonas refused to pose, because he was staring at the timer, so he would know when lunch was ready. He was a hungry boy. He has one of each of these shirts too.
--oh, and the inital photo in my blog today is irrelivant to everything I talked about. It's Jonas and his friend Kennedy walk to our cars after their last day of soccer. I just liked it. These two have known each other since birth. They are 2 1/2 months apart in age. I was HUGE when I went to Kennedy's baby shower. Those are 2 1/2 important months though, as Kennedy starts Kindergarten this year, and Jonas misses the cutoff date by 28 days, and has to wait another year.

Nothing really to write about. This is just such a great photo of Caleb, I had to blog about it. Caleb at his finest. I get this look so many times, every day.
However, I was just telling Jared, that I think he has really outgrown a lot of the difficult "oldest child syndrome" that he's suffered from. He's quite an enjoyable kid. And, he's easier and easier to enjoy every day.

1982-Walt Disney World. The castle above, and two from gator world.
That peacock scared me to death. I still remember that, to this day. Frightening peacock. I wanted to go in that door, right behind the peacock, that's where my parents told me to go. Mean peacock wouldn't let me.

We had a water fight at our house today. Guns, Buckets, but NO hoses. Mom draws the line at one person hogging the hose. Only I'm allowed to do that.
This week concludes our sports for the summer.

My parents came to visit today, to celebrate my birthday. I thought they were coming to see the grandchildren, but it turns out, they were coming to see ME! My mom helped the kids make sock puppets. Caleb whined about how he wanted to learn how to sew. And she explained that, there was nothing to learn, that I learned by sewing her scraps together. She would sew, and hand me her scraps, and I would just sew them all together, adding buttons and whatever else I could get ahold of. When she was done sewing, my creation hit the trash. Practice, that's all there is to it. So, Alex started sewing piles together. Caleb joined in, and he gained the confindence to finish his puppet on his own after she left.
Caleb did wonderful in swimming lessons today too, when he plopped off of the slide, he popped his head right up out of the water, figured out which way to go, and swam to the side, arms, feet, everything moving correctly. Alex is not far behind him in swimming. They have learned so much in this one short week. (Two days were canceled due to rain, it really was quite short.)

The boys made me a birthday cake today.
Just looking at all of the sugar and sprinkles shoots my sugar levels up. We'll eat it for dessert, after dinner. I'm preparing one of my favorites. I figure that's only fair. My favorite. My birthday. There are also sprinkles inside the cake. They went all out.
It rained for 15 minutes this morning, at 10 am, which caused swimming lessons that were at 11 am to be canceled. I called and double checked at 11, to see if they changed their minds, due to the bright blue sky filled with sun. They didn't. I figure there's a good reason for it somewhere, even if I don't understand it. The boys were very sad of course. They didn't believe me, when I originally signed them up for lessons that they would be fun, but, my oh my, they LOVE swimming lessons. (How could you not, really).. Well, I take that back, we took a long break from swimming lessons, (3-4 years) because Caleb HATED them. He didn't want to stick his head under water, and complained the entire time. So, we took a break, now they are older, and back in the water, and loving it. They also get rewarded at the end of each lesson, and get to go down the slide several times.
I'm still striving to get those nachos at tonights ball game. I am pretty sure the park we're going to sells them. I'll keep my fingers crossed. This is our last night of conflicts, so, my last oportunity to buy nachos without having to buy something for everyone with me!

Today must of been busy. I still feel bored, but Jonas was pooped out at 3:00.
Our neighbor arrived at 8am this morning. I was still in bed, but had agreed to get up at 8, if the kids let me sleep just a teensy bit longer. So, we let him in, I got up, and our day began.
I had company coming over, so I did a mad dash to clean, and finish folding about 3 weeks worth of laundry, so we could give the illusion that I am a wonderful housekeeper, and well deserving of my stay-at-home mom position. The company only stayed for about five minutes, but at least the laudry is done. Becky dropped off 31 cookies for me, over 1/2 of them are gone. Yum Yum.
Alex and Caleb had swimming lessons. Jonas played his gameboy on the side of the pool, while we watched them improve on their swimming. I learned today, that one of their swimming instructors is Caleb's teacher's son. Small town at it's finest.
We started to watch Harry Potter (the first one) when I got a call from the library letting us know that we were late for story time. I signed us up a month ago, and it slipped my mind. Again, nice small town, they gave us a call, we got there in about 2 minutes. Caleb tells me it wasn't aimed for kids his age, but I noticed there was one kid that was a year older than Caleb, so, at least they can be miserable together. Jonas and Alex enjoyed it.
After our early dinner, Caleb has a double header tonight, which makes for a long night of baseball for him (only four hours), and Jonas has soccer tonight. Alex has decided that he will be going with Jonas. This does make for an easy night for me. I might be able to even have some nachos, since I don't have to buy for a whole lot of people, just me!

We are attempting to combat the lack of gas, lack of money boredom. Oh the things we could do if I had unlimited resources and funding!
Today we made fortune cookies.
Alex gave up on trying to fold them correctly, and just came up with his own "pizza style" fold. They never did harden, but they were tasty. This project took up a big chunk of our afternoon, because first the kids had to WRITE the fortunes, then we had to mix the batter...
Then we had to cook them, one at a time, and wrap up those fortunes.
Now.. the recipe we used, found here , calls for 1/4 cup of corn starch. I thought it sounded weird.. so, I cross referenced it with a second recipe, and found what I suspected, we needed flour, not corn starch. So, at this point, we had a bowl of 1/2 cup corn starch and some water in a bowl (we were doubling the recipe). That makes for an entirely new fun filled project, Ooblick! We once watched an episode of Zoom (no longer on, *sniffle*) where they made such a huge batch of ooblick, that they jumped up and down in it, and it held their weight!
Ooblick, for those who aren't familar with it, is meerly corn starch and water. If you punch it or squeeze it fast, it is a solid, if you go at is slowly, it is a liquid. Fun Fun Fun.
We also picked up some prestamped blank postcards (only 26 cents each) from the post office. We'll decorate then and mail them tomorrow. We only got one for each kid.. who knows who they'll send them to.
We're trying to break the boredom cycle.

He did it.
He tells me this is MUCH better than long hair, and he had no idea that short hair would look so good. He's in love with the idea of gel. Notice the spikes? Well, just 30 minutes after this photo was taken, they are gone, because he touched and patted the spikes so much.
Caleb donated his hair to locks of love. Thanks to Jamie, I learned that we can get a free haircut because of this, so Caleb got the professional cut he wanted, and the price I wanted. The lady was very very nice to Caleb, and told him that he had wonderful thick hair that would make some kid very very happy. Caleb's feeling pretty good about himself.
We're off to swimming lessons now. When we get home, Caleb will apply a fresh layer of gel to his hair again.
